Inspired by simplicity and the transient nature of things
Maria’s artworks reflect a fusion of tranquillity and imperfection and are inspired by the simple, imperfect, and transient nature of things – a concept deeply rooted in the Japanese Wabi Sabi philosophy.
She is working with a variety of natural materials, including handmade paper and textiles, to create organic and sculptural art pieces that evoke a sense of calmness, introspection, and appreciation for the fleeing nature of existence.
Her color palette consists of soothing monochromatic tones of beige and white inviting viewers to immerse themselves in a tranquil world of contemplation and connection with nature.
Prioritizing sustainable materials and practices
Throughout her creative process, Maria prioritizes sustainability. She carefully chooses high-quality materials and adopts eco-friendly methods to create art that is not only beautiful but also leaves a minimal impact on the environment.
Maria works with locally produced handmade papers and fabrics such as linen, flax, cotton, and silk in her work. Her art is a mindful and intuitive process that pays tribute to the fluidity of her creations.
Following your curiosity
Throughout her life, Maria has always followed her curiosity, which led her to experience a vast number of different countries, places, and cultures, and has earned her a Ph.D. in biochemistry.
In her free time, Maria loves to spend time with her kids or delve into various passions of hers, like cooking, pattern-making, and yoga. She enjoys a good matcha tee and is always on the lookout for a unique ice cream flavor (black sesame with sea salt is currently her favorite). She has a weakness for Japanese ceramics and papers, which over the years resulted in sizable collections.
